Our first fiction podcast gets shortlisted; Australian Podcast Awards - Next 5 Minutes

Podcast's dark depiction of a future Sydney grabs attention

Our first fiction podcast, The Next 5 Minutes Podcast has been shortlisted for The 2024 Australian Podcast Awards – Fiction category!

Written and directed by ABC TV and radio producer, Ian Walker, The Next 5 Minutes was adapted from the unpublished novella, Australia Who by Joanne Burns.

The Next 5 Minutes is a five-episode series following the fortunes of four memorable characters whose dark – and sometimes comical – stories connect in strange ways in the dystopian Gondwanaland (the nation formerly known as Australia) of the near future. You can listen to it on your preferred podcast-listening platform.
Winners are announced at the Australian Podcast Awards night in Sydney on November 21st. You can check out the full list of finalists here.

The Next 5 Minutes is produced in collaboration with Ear Candy Media, Echidna Audio and Spineless Wonders, distributed by Acast with the support of CreateNSW.

Slinkies 2024 is a collection of short stories from emerging young Australian writers. For the first time in Slinkies' history, the book features illustrations from a combination of authors bringing their own writings to life and the glorious designs from Australian artist, Lauryn Evans.

Slinkies 2024 explores a young woman in an eating disorder ward captivated by an avatar, a reclusive witch who confronts an intruder on her land, two writers who use graphics to explore the cost of living crisis and intergenerational trauma, and we meet Joan of Arc over cake in a coffee shop.

Slinkies 2024 is a diverse collection of contemporary stories from exciting new writers under 30 years of age. This anthology explores worldly relationships with other-worldly beings and the dead through a mixture of textual and visual storytelling.

Authors Fiona Wilkes, Georgia Loadsman, Miles Mazzocato, Jewel Swe, Helena and Aggy Pantsis have all created beautiful stories. We can’t wait to celebrate and support them at the Slinkies Launch Party.
